I'd be interested to hear of any solution to this. My old PC (I
replaced it because of the same problem) did this, although it was
intermittant. I tested it with a DOS boot disk and even pressing
ctrl-alt-del from DOS, (which should restart the computer) shut it down
- although I did notice that the power light was still on - as though it
was in standby mode - although it wasn't!)
A couple of people suggested getting a new power suply - I did that and
no difference. Some suggested leaking capacitors or dodgy joints. I
gave up in the end.
I did notice, though, that it only seemed to do it when the computer
was warm - i.e. if I just power up the computer, start Windows and then
ask it to restart, it would be fine. Once it had warmed up a bit,
that's when it would happen if it was going to.
Sound familliar?
