restart instead of shutting down

Dear friends

Would you please help me to resolve my problem in shutting
down the windows 2000.When I issue shut down command it
restarts the computer.What can I do?

Check the power option in control panel and also check in bios setting, Try
to update the latest bios. Check the event viewer and tell me what event
you can see there
