Resoring Win98 backup in XP

How can I restore files backed up in Win98SE. I am running XP Home and XP Pro
on 2 different PC's. The file extension is .bkf, but NTbackup in XP Home says
that file contains unrecognised data and cannot be used when I try to see the
contents

What software did you use? The generic W98 backups were *.qic AFAIK......

I assumed it was Win98 (perhaps the original version) It was part of the
original Compaq setup as bought. The file on the floppy 3 1/2 is backup.bkf.
I also want to restore some files that are in a ****.qic file. Any thoughts
on this.

Visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click the Win XP Faq
button and take a look at question 48. This page will be updated within the
next day or so with an alternative method using the original version of
backup that was available on windows 98

If you still have the Win98 system handy, restore the files there and then
transfer them to the XP system.

Or use a program that works in XP and that is capable of reading and
unpacking .QIC files. Backup My PC (a third party program) is one such
program that is capable of restoring these files.

If you try this program (BackUp My PC) through www.stompsoft.com, only the
paid version will work to restore the files. However, MVP Harry Ohrn has
posted that the trial version at the following site has not been crippled
and will work: http://www.orlogix.com/prodinfo.php?pn=bump
