Resolution problems with custom shell

We've been using a custom shell without any problems, however, we have
an application which changes resolution. This is fine in explorer,
however, when it happens using our custom shell, the touchscreen
alignment goes squiffy. Running Explorer in the background doesn't
seem to help matters. If we have to have Explorer as our shell to sort
this, is there any way to hide the recycle bin (other than, say,
setting it to a background-coloured icon with background and text the
same colour)

Try deleting these keys:
"[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]
"
and
"HKCR\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"
These are part of "Shell Namespace Registry Data" and "Shell Core Registry
Data" components' resources so you may just disable it there.
