Themes and custom shells

Folks,

I have an app that I want to run as the custom shell. No problem there I
can get the shell to run just fine. My problem is that the look and feel of
the app requires a theme that was customized to make the app look good. I
have the right components in the image and have created a component for the
theme. My challenge is two fold:

First I cannot get the theme to be the default when the system boots. Even
if I use the explorer shell I cannot get the theme to be in place unless I
manually select it using the diplay properties. I've added regsitry
settings etc until I'm blue in the face.

Second - if I can get past my first problem does anyone know if themes will
work in a custom shell without the explorer shell?

I know custom themes work in Explorer shell. I have not tried custom shell.

There was a Nile component them created sometime ago. It has been awhile,
but I don't know if it became the default theme or you still have to set a
registry key.
