Hello. Recently I switched from WinME to Win2000 & now I find I am
unable to get any resolution higher than 1024X768 Whereas I would
like to boost it up to the next higher resolution: 1152 x 870.

How do I get back my beloved 1152 x 870 resolution ?

You need to use an adapter and a driver that supports this resolution.
If your adapter could do it under WinME then it's a question of
finding a Win2000 driver that can do it.

I forgot to say this: The home site of your display adapter's
manufacturer would be a good starting point for a suitable
driver. You could also try www.driverguide.com.

You also forget that all of the following may be
true for her:
1.) Her display adapter physically supports 1152 x 870
2.) Her display adapter driver supports 1152 x 870
but ...
3.) The problem lies in what W2K and the adapter/driver
think the monitor is and what it is capable of doing.

Her first two steps should be
1.) Make sure that she has the appropriate display adapter
drivers installed.
2.) Go into her display settings and make sure her monitor
make and model is correctly identified.

In some situations, she may need to go to the monitor
manufacturer's web site and see if they have a driver
for that monitor.

It is also quite possible that 1152x870 was not an
"officially supported" resolution of her monitor.
W2K and XP, once they have properly identified your
monitor, are quite stringent about only letting you
choose what they think are the supported resolutions -
even though the monitor might work perfectly well as
some "unsupported" resolutions.
