Resizing the window that popsup looking for files

Every time I try to resize the popup window that comes up when looking for a
specific file, the window dissapear and the computer freezes up in Word 2007.
How can I resize the window succesfully?

When I click on the Office Button Icon (upper left hand corner of screen) and
then click on the Open icon, a window opens up listing several folders and
files to open. This window is taller than the screen causing some of the
options at the bottom of the window to be hidden. When I try to resize the
window from the top, the screen disappears immediately and the computer

FWIW, this dialog box can't be made smaller, only larger (just tested). OTOH,
unless you have a very small screen, it shouldn't be so large, either. And
trying to change it should not be freezing the computer.

I get the feeling we may be looking at a number of factors, here. Let's start
with starting Word in Safe Mode by holding down CTRL when you start it. Does the
Open dialog box look any different while you're in Safe Mode?

How about if you boot Windows in Safe Mode, do you see any difference now? And
if you try to change the size of the Open dialog box while Windows is in Safe
Mode?

Cindy, thanks for responding. This is what happened: opening Word in safe
mode did nothing. The window cannot be resized and when I tried it, the
computer froze.

However, when I started the computer in safe mode, I was able to resize the
window and the computer did not freeze, and it allowed me to select folders
and files.

OK, this sounds like there's a problem with your graphics card driver. Try updating
it from the manufacturer's website and see if that makes any difference.

I went to the Radeon Web and they suggest I download the DriverMagic, a cure
for all type of driver problems. Are you familiar with this program? I am a
bit timid downloading magic pills into my computer. Please let me know if you
know anything about this probram. Thanks.

No, I'm not familiar with this, but it sounds interesting

Best place to get information would be a Windows newsgroup, I think. Since I
don't know which version of Windows you're running, here's a link to an entry

Cindy, thanks for your information. I have Windows XP. I tried to visit the
windows Newsgroup that you suggeted, but did not find anything i would have
recognized to help me. At this point, I will have to live with what I have. I
will do more investigation about the DriverMagic download from Radeon and
maybe I will have the courage to execute it. Thanks very much for your time
and good advice. At least I can now see the whole window, even if some of the
info is corrupted. Thank you again.
