Resetting BIOS to factory default when you don`t have access to it

If you still have it open, now would be
a good time to replace the CMOS battery
with a new one, especially if more than two
years old.

Gentlemen,

I thank you all for your outstanding support. The good news is that the
hints in my notes enabled me to guess the three passwords and that I now
have, once again, access to the computer!

I still can´t browse the Network as Internet Explorer seems to be hosed, but
I am working on that now. I can ping various sites on the Network but cannot
browse. I will try restoring factory defaults and if that does not work, use
a different browser.

If a different browser does not work, then it means I just disabled too much
stuff at the BIOS level like Network access.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the update and good luck!

JS,

You are welcome. All of you. For great support. I am trying to get past the
browser issue, and will let you know.

Thank you guys.

Greetings,

Well, I reset everything to factory defaults and then disabled all
firewalls. Everything seems to be working now. I am slowly rebuilding.
Hopefully things will keep working after I reboot. BTW. No clear reason from
the problem.

But, thank you all for your help. That´s in case anyone is still reading.

Still here

JS,

I restored all BIOS communication settings to defaults. Then I removed
disabled all the firewalls (Norton which was active in spite of the fact I
did not purchase it), Windows, and McAfee (which I am licensed for).

Now, things are working and I have re-eanbled some of my securtity settings,
including McAfee, without any problems. Like my father used to say,
"pourvu que ca dure". Let us hope it lasts.

Thank you all for your help.

Jean-Pierre

BTW, I never was able to pinpoint the exact nature of the problem...

You're welcome.

PS. Just make certain you don't have two AV products
both in the "Active Scan" mode.
