Hi All

One of my colleagues set a load of new PCs up for one of our schools and
didn't specify an admin password when he did the original WinXP first setup
wizard.

Only found this out a few months later when I tried to remote desktop to
them and found that it wouldn't work because admin doesn't have a password.

Found that I can specify a password via the Computer Management admin tool,
but it gives me loads of warnings about doing this at your peril!!!

Considering the situ explained above, am I OK to go in and set a password?

What will it affect?

Thanks

If the Admin has no password, you can log in as the admin account and then
change the password. That would be the safest way, done via Control Panel,
User Accounts or CTL-ALT-DEL [Change Password...].

If that is not possible (why not?) then you can change it via computer
management from some other account in the Adminstrators group via computer
management. As there is likely little if any data files for the Admin user
that would have been encrypted by that user, there is not much risk with
changing the password this way.

That's just a standard, precautionary warning; it's fine to remotely
set the password in this manner.
What will it affect?

You'll have more secure computers.
