Unable to reset Administrator Password

I am unable to reset the administrator password and get an "internal error"
when I try to do so. I have used both Computer Management and Wininternals
command line password reset tool and both say "internal error" when you
attempt to reset the admin password. Of course being smart I don't use the
admin account and have two other accounts with full admin rights but it
would be nice to know what my administrator password is and be able to reset
it since I do have some apps running as a service using that account.

Nope that doesn't work either but at least I get a real error however that
error is useless too. In safe mode if I try to access the Administrator
account from Local Users in Computer Manangement I get "The workstation
service is not started" and in safe mode you cannot start the workstation
service. This does however maybe point in a direction as only the
administrator account is having this problem and now it's tied to the
Workstation service in some way, strange.

Hi James,

Log onto the hidden Administrator account through Safe Mode and reset
the password for any account from there.

Just a guess but, open My Network Places - View network connection -
double click on the current connection to open its properties. Is
Client for Microsoft Networks listed and checked? If not install it
and check it. Then install or enable the "File and printer sharing"
component.

Yes it is installed but why would you consider that relevant?

After doing some searching, I found this to be a possible solution.
But not in this case I see.

Checked the Event Viewer for an Event ID and Source to the error and
post it here. You can also use the following site to look for a
solution to this error.

No error codes or events tied to getting the "Internal Error" when trying ot
reset Admin password. No events on reboot either other than some drivers or
services tied to hardware I do not have connected.

I suspect the SID is hosed and would prefer to just delete the entire
account and recreate but I cannot do that from User Manager either, same
error.
