Hello there,

I have recently been hit by a bad Harddrive Crash, and where forced to
Reinstall Windows on my C: partition. now my question is, is it possible to
rescue my Outlook 2003 Emails and Configurations, even tho the program will
not function untill i have installed a clean copy of it on my drive, i
weren't able to make a "Formal" Outlook backup becouse of my C: Partition
became inaccessible, and there by not able to boot in any way.
but i still have the old Office/outlook folders in my install directory. and
have not removed them yet to make the clean install.

so please if theres some files that i could save move or keep and infuse to
the clean install and get my mails back from the damaged outlook i would
appreciate any help possible.

Best regards and thank you.

Search for pst-files and make sure you include hidden files and folders.

thank you for the quick respons, but i dose not help with my problem.
Outlook dose not automaticly create PST backup files. my Office pack witch
included Outlook 2003 where installed on a sepperate partition, but as ussual
i cannot be repaired if you format your primary C: boot partition.

i need to some how "extract" my mails from the "incryptet" Outlook software
system files. (i belive) the PST files are only created if i tell outlook to
backup, and since i didn expect a sudden break down, my backup up didn have
time to kick in.

Best Regards and Thanks

No, a pst-file is a data file and is not kept within system files. Also it
is not a backup file it is the actual thing; Mail, Contacts, Calendar,
etc... everything is kept within that single file. By default it is kept in
Documents and Settings.

ok thanks, i dont think i where clear enough in my explanation.

i have multiple partitions on my computer. i use one for my operating system
(C:)
and others for programs and such (G: F: etc.) my Outlook where installed on
my G: drive. i then formatet my C: and that renders Outlook unsuable, the
default .PST's witch are created by Outlook as i can understand are created
on the C: drive the default operating system drive. i have formatet and clean
installed the C: drive so theres nothing left other than a clean windows 2000
on it now. that woud mean that if Outlook have saved a PST (database file)
for the former working Outlook on my C: drive, it is no longer there, since i
did not change any default locations in the outlook configuration.

i hoped it would be possible to finde a "database" among the Outlook
installation files (G: drive in my case) from where i could restor the mails
i had before the reformating of my operating system.

but thanks for the help
