Request for Microsoft MVP's and/or alt.config to create SP related group

T

Trevor

Since there seems to be an avid following of Vista SP1 and in most
likeliness, will continue for future Service Pack releases, I hereby
request/suggest another NG be created to stop the cluttering of SP
related articles inundating this one. I suggest the following:

"microsoft.public.windows.vista.service-packs"

Considering the fact that Microsoft has agreed to offer FREE Tech
support for SP1 until 2009, it seems it may be prudent to create such
a NG.

Thanks for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Trev

Hi Trevor,

Microsoft's trend in relation to the creation of newsgroups is such that
they are going away from product specific groups. This group is a perfectly
good place for SP1 (and SP2, 3, etc.) issues as they are directly related to
the subject matter of the group. The SP1 chatter will die down soon enough.

Actually the horror show for SP1 hasn't even really started. Wait until
SP1 is push out via Auto Update.

It will make this last week seem like a dream.

MVPs don't get to create Microsoft's newsgroups. But regarding your
suggestion, I'm personally against it. In my experience every time a
newsgroup gets split into two newsgroup, instead of separating the
traffic what it accomplishes is just an *increase* of traffic.

That's because many people will post in both the newsgroups, rather
the most suitable one. And since many people do that the wrong way--by
multiposting instead of crossposting--overall traffic grows, and often
substantially.
