REQ: Need Help - Lost CD Drives in Device Manager

Y

young

I have W98SE and two CD drives, one connected Primary IDE slave, the
other connected Secondary IDE master. Boot-up shows both drives
detected.

When W98SE comes up neither CD drive shows in My Computer, and Device
Manager shows no CD drives. Under Hard Drive Controllers, it shows

Intel 82801DB Ultra ATA Storage Controller 24CB
Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)

Both of the last two above show the dreaded yellow Exclamation flag.

I tried removing all these controllers and re booting, but PnP reset
the Device Manager right back as above.

What is wrong? It used to work I had both drives disconnected for a
while, but now both are back connected as before.

Thanks

Have you tried searching for new hardware in Control Panel??? If the
drivers were there before, they should still be there if you have not
deleted them.

Look for an updated drivers pack for the mother board/chip set and
also use Safemode as per,
