I'm looking for a free instant messaging software for local network,
that doesn't require any application server to work.
I like RealPopup ( http://www.realpopup.it/ ) very much, but
unfortunately it doesn't seem to support file transfer.

Any idea?

UltraVNC has both a chat mode and a file transfer mode, but it might
be more than you're looking for.
