Req Adobe Reader complete package download link

L

litefoot

Does anyone have a good download link for Adobe Reader 7.0.5 basic package
complete. The download page shows a size of 20MG for the basic reader
without Yahoo etc. but the downloaded size is only 533KB. Obviously a
bootstrap. There used to be a link to a page at Adobe where one could
select from many versions and package sizes but I've lost it.

I want to download the total basic package, not the bootstrap, and install
without having to have an internet connection to Adobe.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Dick but the download at this link is the 533KB bootstrap I was
talking about. It may not be available but what I'm looking for is a
download that contains the complete 20MG install package. I prefer
installing programs while not connected to the internet. I'll do it for
this program if I have to but I prefer not to.

Thanks again.

Bob

Have you considered using an alternative program to read your PDF files.
Many in this group have like Foxit PDF Reader
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php .

Not too long ago, I came across an Acrobat document that required a
newer version of Acrobat -- reborn as Adobe Reader. I wasted a lot of
time on the Adobe site searching in vain for a locally-installed
version. Thinking I'd found it, I discovered that it was a bootstrap for
a "drive by" installation -- a technique that I detest. It's especially
eggregious for a program like this, which installs multiple tentacles
deep into the operating system. I wanted to go grab the president of
this companyby the shoulders, give him a good shaking while yelling at
him about what the user is supposed to do if there's a power failure
during the installation. "And why the hell does your program take so
damn long to load. It's always taken a rediculous loading time, since
back in the days of Windows 3. What the hell is wrong with you people,"
I'd say while shaking him.

Afterwards, the thing worked, and worked in the classic Adobe manner:
the classic manner is that the program takes a l-o-n-g l-o-n-g l-o-n-g
l-o-n-g l-o-n-g l-o-n-g l-o-n-g l-o-n-g l-o-n-g t-i-m-e to load,
as if it were Microsoft Office or something, or was loading the entire
_War And Peace_ (or all of GW Bush's Executive Orders) into memory (it
was a three-page document).

After having a problem with it, I expunged the thing from my computer
and replaced it with Foxit. Now, Foxit loads a .pdf file licketty-split,
which makes one wonder about just what Adobe Reader is doing during
loadup anyway? Is it spying on our whole house?

Foxit is cool. With one exception: I loaded a control page (menu) for a
set of documents produced in Adobe; the control page would not link to
the child pages. So, this was frustrating. The Foxit version is the
latest one. Hmmmm.

Any other suggestions?

Well ...

One of the things Adobe does by default is to load all sorts of
"plugins" as it loads. One of them probably allows you to run that
control page. There are ways to disable the "load the world" function
in Adobe, but then you'd have Foxit.

That's interesting. I wonder how many .PDFs use arcane "plugins," and
how practical it would be to disable them as one's default load. Maybe
this would civilize Adobe Reader. Naturally, I'd rather use a
better-behaved product from a better-behaved company. I must say that my
computer runs a whole lot nicer with Adobe Reader bloat memory hog
expunged from the system. I'm not aware of plugins for Foxit.

The way to get the full install is to use the file you have.
It will d/l both the 7.00 and 7.05 versions. When it is
done it will offer to install the package. Select install
later and it is saved to you machine. I don't know how your
machine is setup so, I cannot tell you where the file will
be saved. The total d/l size is near 42MB since it include
both versions. A bit of a screwy way of doing it if you ask
me.
