Can somebody please point me to a FAQ for this news group.
I have a problem that so far nobody has been able to solve.
Do I keep reposting until I do get an answer.
If I don't get an answer to solve a problem how long should I wait
before I repost? If nobody has sufficient knowledge to solve my
problem where do I go from here? What other resources are there
available? Thanks.

I cannot confirm this as I do not have a copy of WinXP Home running on any
of my machines, however, I can postulate:

Windows XP Home runs "Simple File Sharing" by default. As such, you do not
have access to the "Security" tab...file security is set by whether or not
the file is shared and you cannot assign an owner or take ownership (with,
apparently, the exception of "Safe Mode".)

To circumvent this in XP Pro, you disable "Simple File Sharing". This is
done by opening "My Computer", navigate to Tools | Folder Options. In the
"View" tab, under Advanced Settings, scroll to the bottom and uncheck the
box for "Use Simple File Sharing". This will allow you to use the advanced
security features (such as file ownership and security according to DACL's;
AKA by username).

As I said, I do not run WinXP Home, so I cannot confirm this in that
platform, however, Home, by it's nature, disables many of the security
features of XP Pro so you may not be able to use this method. If that's the
case, I'm out of ideas for you. My guess, though, is that you will be able
to as you can see the "Security" tab in Safe Mode. As such, you simply need
to access your USB device and "Security" at the same time (IOW - not in Safe
Mode).

Hope this helps.
