Gerry Cornell replied but his suggestion didn't work. I have to highlight
the e-mail first to delete. When I click on the delete key I get the "wait"
icon and can do nothing then I get a "program not responding" message. I
have to close Outlook Express then reopen to get back in. I have a good
virus protection program so if the e-mail has a virus, it should have been
caught before it got to my INBOX. any other ideas on how to rid myself of
this e-mail?

Hi Sarah,
Try to Log into the E-mail ISP Email service provider website and open your
E-mail account on their page and Delete from the server Side then from your
E-mail client (Outlook express).
It doesn't mean you have Anti-Virus that you are safe and you will not get
infected, even with new viruses never been discovered yet, that your AV
Definitions will know about or clean out.
Lots of new virus created every day targetting businesses and home users a
like.
Scan for malwares and clean up your Temp by downloading these software and
update their definitions then Run a full scan:
For Malwares download both these software:

Call your ISP; they can delete it for you.

You Inbox.dbx file is corrupted. Try this: Create a new folder, move
all the other email to the new folder, close OE. Do a search for
inbox.dbx, delete the file. Restart OE; the folder will be recreated.
Drag some of your emails back into the Inbox folder. Leave most in the
newly created folder. That is to say, you shouldn't let the Inbox get
overloaded with email since it's critical to good performance of OE.
