repopulating all programs menu

My father in-law had ME. He purchased XP Pro, and
installed it,now his programs don't show up on all
programs list. They are still on hard drive. HELP!!
 
Hi Tom,

Have him check his setting here: Start/Run/Msconfig/Restore Startup
Programs.

_ALL_ MS OS's are best installed FRESH, NOT upgraded from a previous OS.
Especially Me.
 
I would argue greatly against that statement, for 'many' reasons. Upgrades
work just fine!

That is a bit of street wisdom that has been overtaken by development.
An upgrade of ME replaces all of the system, but does retain installed
software, data, and also some legacy hardware drivers where there is no
XP equivalent. Do an upgrade in the first instance - it is always
possible to go back and do a clean install *if* it does not work out.
The converse is not true.
