replying to email deletes original message

can anyone help with this problem. everytime I reply to an
email that is sent to me, the original disappears from my
computer.
 
Is it deleted or just hidden as you have a view applied, such as "Unread
Messages?"

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
