reply threads getting smaller

I have been told that when I respond to a mail thread (long thread) the more
replys the narrower the earlier threads get. each time I reply it adds a
black line down the earlier threads. How can I get rid of the black vertical
lines?

Go to Tools | Options | Send | HTML Settings and uncheck the option to
indent message on reply.
