Reply meesages do not leave the outbox. What am I doing wrong.

When I receive a message that I need to reply to, I am unable to get the
message to leave my outbox. The size of the message is not large. How can I
fix this?
 
Provide some helpful information and maybe someone can help.

Outlook version?
Connection type?
Send/Receive settings?
Did it ever work? If yes, when did it stop working?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
(insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal account
will be deleted without reading.
