Replacing W2k with XP

Guest

I am trying to install XP and at the same time remove all references to W2k.
I have tried to install XP twice but it still retains all the Programs W2k
had installed (Program Files folder). How do I go about removing W2k
completely and then have XP installed ?

Thanks
David

Is your Windows XP an Upgrade version or a full install?

Boot the computer from the XP CD and let setup run. When you're asked what partition to install to, you're offered the option of formatting the partition that you're installing to.

Format your hard disk first, of course. Download the floppies from your hard
drive's manufacturer to do the job, including making partitions.

You have two ways of moving from 2000 to XP. One is running the XP CD
from the 2000, and in Install continuing with Upgrade. (or set up a
dual boot by taking New install). That will retain all installed
programs and settings - and is what is normally done. Or if you want a
totally clean start - backing up all data first - boot the XP CD direct.
Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install. When it
asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete the current
partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next stage

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one and old programs will
be around as sets of files, but not installed

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
