replacing hard drive

I need to replace the hard drive in my Sony PCV-RX550 because it says so when
I boot up. I was wondering if I can put one in that is bigger than orig. and
can I still use my recovery discs to recover afterwards (I have no Win Xp
disc).

yes you can put a bigger one in
but the sad news is that you can't use your recovery disc
because that was preinstall on your hard drive , thats
the part that sucks with preinstall stuff , once your
hard drive goes so does your operating system , unless
you are still under warranty , if not then you are out of
luck and would need to buy a new operating system

See if you can find someone with a copy of Symantec Ghost. It will copy
your entire HD and allow it to be transferred to a new HD.
It's used by companies all the time to set up a new machine when one gets
replaced. Saves lots of reinstalling of OS, apps and data.

Yes and most likely, yes. When you get the new drive it should have a
utility to copy over the data from the old drive if you don't have it
already imaged.
