The new drive should come with software to copy the old drive to the
new. If not go to the new drive manufacturer's web site and get their
copy utility. After the drive is copied, remove the old, put the new
one as the primary master and boot only with the new drive. Read the
documentation carefully for the new drive in how to set it up.

They are not always reliable.. I have known them copy over and screw up MS
Office installations and other programs big time..

I've not had any problems with the one's I've done. But they are worth
a try since it's free.

I used a Maxtor utility which screwed up MS Office, Adobe Reader and a
number of other programs.. would never use it again on a full installation..
programs like Acronis TrueImage do a far better job..

Not if it's an OEM drive.

Thanks for the info. I haven't used Maxtor's utility, just WD's which
worked fine. I recollect seeing posts now and then about copies with
Maxblast, I think it's called, not working.

Found a tool at the OEM site and also at acronis.com. Tried the trial copy
of Easy Mirgrate. Extremely easy to use and got the drive copied. Thanks
for all your help.
