to vista ...can i do that and how?
what's the best edtion of vista for my laptop?

Is there a reason you want Vista over XP? If your system is running fine,
there may be no compelling reason to switch unless you just want to try the
new technology. Now for Alias's comment, he is our resident Ubuntu troll

Are you ready to relearn how to use Windows?
Vista has changed so many things (to my tastes, not in a good way), it's not
enjoyable for me to use.

While it is possible to install Vista on your laptop, if it came with XP, it
may not be a good idea.
Unless you have a dual core processor and minimum 2GB RAM, I wouldn't even
think of it.
The majority of laptops I see have Vista Home Premium. That may or may not
have the features you need.
If you are using it for connection to a corporate domain, you will need
Business or Ultimate.
