Replace Win2K DC with new Hardware

I need to replace my existing Doman Controller in a remote location with new
Server Hardware. I want to install a new Server with the same name, then
rename the existing DC and use in another location, is there any steps I can
follow to do this?

Please help, thanks

Hi,

You can't rename a server once it's been promoted to a DC.

With this in mind, what I would do is this: Get the new server all setup in
a workgroup with the proper name. Once you're ready, run DCPromo on the old
server, demote it, and rename it to the new name. DCPromo it into the domain
again, put it in the proper site, mark as GC, etc. DCPromo the new box into
the domain with the new Bring the new server online, dcpromo it, put it in
the proper site, and make it a GC if necessary.

If it's going to be a while before the old box gets to the new site, I would
wait until it gets there to DCPromo it back into the domain.

Thanks for the help, when I finally run add the new computer to the domain
with the smae name as the old one, I would rename the old one first, do I
have to join the domain first? then run DCPromo on the New Server, will
there be any issues with it being the same name? Will I have to clear DNS
and Domain Computes so I can put it in the Domain as the same name as the
old Server? Please let me know, thanks
