Repeating Logon Screen

In a W2k domain, when a user tries to logon the ID and
password seem to be accepted(because screen shows "
setting up user profile" appears) and immediately shows
logon screen again. I you key in the password it repeats
back the login process. No error message shows up. TCP/IP
settings shows the same information as the other PC's in
the LAN segment. IP is fixed(not DHCP). If you logon
locally as admin, PC works fine, only the domain logon is
not working right. The O/S is W2K, sp4 with all recent
patches. What do I do to resolve this problem?

Do you use login scripts for domain users? Test without
Do you deploy group policy? Test without
Have you tried with different domain users?

Also, you can enable UserEnv logging to track activity during user logon
1. Navigate in the registry to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\
2. Create a REG_DWORD value called UserEnvDebugLevel. The data is 10002 in
Hex
3. Log will be stored in: c:\winnt\debug\usermode\userenv.log
....There will be a lot in this log that you may find cryptic, but it can
provide clues to logon problems....even to the untrained eye
