Repeatedly lose wireless connection

My XP Pro laptop regularly drops the wireless signal from my network router
and then almost immediately finds it again and asks if I want to connect to
it again! This happens even when the laptop is within a few feet of the
router.

Another wireless laptop on the same network has no such problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven

Check the Authentication options in your wireless network adapter's settings
and make sure that you don't have 802.1x authentication enabled. You'll
find this by right-clicking your wireless adapter in the Network Connections
box, selecting Properties, then the Authentication tab.

Thanks - this is not checked, but I still get the behaviour.

I should have mentioned that often it re-connects automatically, but I still
'suffer' from the momentary loss of signal - every few minutes.

In that case I'd suspect that the wireless adapter may be faulty. Is it
possible to swap them between the two laptops and see whether or not the
problem follows the adapter?

Thanks - yes, I've swapped them and I still have one machine working
perfectly and the other 'dropping and re-connecting' every few minutes

Very odd.

Thanks again,

Steven

Yes ... but which one? Does the problem stay with the original computer, or
does it follow the adapter to the new computer?

Problem stays with computer, not adapter.

The problem has been 'managed away' by stopping the 'Wireless Zero Config'
service, but this involves some inconvenience cold starting the machine.

Thanks,

Steven

Ah - perhaps things are becoming a bit less cloudy ... do you have both the
WZC service and the card's management program running at the same time? If
so you need to get one of them working then remove the other.
