my friend is using outlook 2003 and all of a sudden today he keeps getting
the same emails over and over again sent to him as if in an infinite loop.
error message: 0x800ccc90 is associated somehow with the problem or the
problem is calling this error. What can we do to trouble shoot this? His
cable service is road runner and his email account is through yahoo. He uses
microsoft outlook 2003.

What sort of mail account(s)? Does he get multiple copies of all messages,
or just some? Does he get multiple copies of a message in a single
send/receive, or just another copy each time he does a send/receive? Does
he have an anti-virus program that scans incoming email? If so, start by
turning off that scanning.

HI Jeff,

Thank you sooooooooooooooo much for responding you are the only one.

The kind of email account my friend uses is POP through Yahoo its set up on
outlook 2003. He had the virus scan turned off and turned it back on and it
happens either way. Also when he does a send receive a huge amount of emails
send back to him one's he had already received. Its hard to tell which ones
they are its almost as if they are just all coming back.
He dumped all his cookies, tempfiles, and did a virus scan nothing worked.
He uses panda and has also tried macafee virus scan.
What do you think? Any other suggestions?
Thank you soooooooo much for your response it's greatly appreciated!

One more thing to add from the previous response. When the dupicate emails
come in there isnt any number that is associated but i did find out that the
same email is copied a number of times then the next is copied and sent a
number of times so its in that kind of order in other words say i sent my
friend an email and then joe sent an email. my friend will get my email back
to him 20 times for example then the next set from joe will come in 20 times
and it just keeps going like that. Does that make sense? I answered your
other questions in my previous posting. HELP! thanks.

Some anti-virus programs don't really stop scanning email just because you
uncheck the box to do so. Have your friend try uninstalling the anti-virus
program, rebooting his computer, then reinstalling the program without the
email scanning selected.

If that doesn't work, he could try getting the hotfix described in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;885243.
