cannot receive incoming emails

I could use some help - I recently switched from a dial up internet provider to a cable modem (Road Runner). I would like to use Outlook or Outlook Express as my default email through Road Runner. But I can't seem to configure it to receive incoming mail. There is a mail delivery error that appears. I am able to send emails (I sent an email to my current account to test it out) but it won't allow incoming mail. Anybody have any suggestions?? Thanks!!
