Repeat Table Header does not work

Hi Ive a Word 2002 document with a standard table that flows over several
pages. I have highlighted the first row of the table and selected "Heading
Rows Repeat" from the menu. However in Page Layout or any other view, the
headings are not repeated. Im assuming that Word automatically acknowledges
the first row of a table as the Heading Row - I cant see an option to
manually define it as such.

Thanks Tim

No, Word does not automatically designate the first row of a table as a
(repeating) heading row. The following rules apply to repeating heading
rows:

1. You can designate as many rows as you like as repeating heading rows but
they must be (a) at the top of the table and (b) contiguous.

2. Repeating heading rows are displayed only in Print Layout view.

If you have selected the first row of the table and designated it as a
heading and it is not repeating, then there is something wrong. Try
selecting a column of the table to make sure that the heading row is
actually part of the same table; sometimes tables get split in ways that are
not apparent.

Thank you (again) Suzanne, I checked all of the criteria you suggested, and
could not see any reason why it should not work, so I tried it in a fresh
document and it worked, so the latter document probably has a minor
corruption. Thank you for your help.

Yes, sometimes documents do just get a speck of lint in them, it seems, and
in such cases it's usually more efficient to start fresh than to keep
banging your head against a wall.
