Greetings:

Does anyone know if you can do a system repair of XP home edition with a XP
professional CD? I was applying service pack 2 to a friend's PC and the PC
crashed during the install. Now the PC restarts at the XP splash screen in an
endless cycle (until pulling the plug of course). I have tried last known
good, safe mode, etc and all have all failed. The PC in question is a newer
presario that did not come with CDs but has a restore partition that users
can make CDs from. My friend did not make these CD and I cannot access this
partition now so I do not have access to a home edition media. However, I do
have my own professional CD so was thinking of doing a repair with that.
Does anyone have similar experiances?

thanks

If you do a repair install using Pro media it will then be a Pro
installation and the Home PID Key will not work. Contact Compaq for CDs
or instructions on how to create the CDs from the restore partition
without being ablt to run Windows.
