repairing windows XP with sp2 installed

I wanted to try repairing my windows XP pro with sp2 installed. MY old
windows disk wouldn't do it because it was an old version so I had to make a
new disk with sp2 intagrated into it. However I still have some problems,
such as my office and xp updates. IS there a way to repair pre-sp2 without
lossing my programs and data?

Also I am not sure if something in the registry is corrupt, is there a way
to do a repair on the registry? I see all these programs that cleans the
registry but I just want it to search the drive and repair entries.

Hi,

You have to do a repair installation with the same version. After a repair
install, you will always have to reinstall any updates that were released
after the SP used in the repair. Keep in mind though, that a repair
installation only fixes issues with the core operating system. If the
problems lie with corrupted software installations, then a repair install is
not going to help you.
