In attempt to repair XP after booting from XP CD-ROM it asks me for
administrator password. There are 4 users of this computer. I am only
person with an administrator account. I type in my password that I use
to log on and it tells me the password entered is incorrect. I also
have attempted using the password from the CMOS setup utility - it
tells me that also is incorrect. This message about the entered
password is displayed 3 times then the computer restarts. I have not
been able to complete the repair process. Any ideas on how I can
accomplish this will sure be helpful. Thanks.

instead of using the repair console go farther into the
setup on the cd and do a repair install.

You should do a "Repair Install," which will retain your data files and
software.

For a step by step walk through of a
Windows XP Repair Install, including screenshots, go to:

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

When the page opens, scroll down and click on: How To Run A Repair
Install.

What you will lose though, are any Windows Updates that you might have
installed. They will have to be installed again. But if it gets you up and
running again, that would be only a minor annoyance.

Greetings --

The password being requested is that of the built-in Administrator
account, not the password for any other user accounts you may have
created. Unless you've deliberately set the Administrator's password
via the Management Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably
still blank. WinXP Pro asks you to set the Administrator's password
during installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

This is not your account but the hidden reserve account called
explicitly "Administrator" The password is probably blank - if it is a
Home system that is almost certain. So just bypass with TAB then Enter
