Repair with Install CD

When I repair a win2k Professional system with the
Origional Install CD, does the repair function somehow
incorporate updates that have been applied to the system?
My system is at Version 5 build 2165 SP4. The instal CD
was purchased three ears ago

Hi Ed

As far as I am aware, if you repair using a cd any files which are different from the ones on the cd will be replaced. This will usually remove any hotfixes applied from the windows update site

One scenario I am not sure of is if the registry was backed up during creation of an ERD disk, some if not all the hotfixes may survive the repair.

In my experience it depends how you do it. If you boot the CD and select
R for a repair and then do an Emergency Repair it does not appear to
change any updates (and in my recent case it didn't repair the problems
I was having with the OS either).

If you run the setup from within Windows and choose to Replace the OS it
will not keep any updates and they will have to be reinstalled
(including IE updates). However your data and other applications should
remain intact.

What ever you do, back up data first.
