Repair option not available from boot CD

I'll be replacing motherboard, CPU & RAM, and understand the steps & the
need in doing a repair installation from the boot CD. I'm clear that I
should select the "repair" option that follows after booting from the
install CD & pressing "enter". (In other words, I don't select the repair
console at this point.) Before making the swap, I booted from the CD & went
thru a "trial run" to see if there would be any obvious glitches, and
discovered that the repair option is not available. (I'm shown only the hard
drive and the options to work on the existing partitions.)

I restarted the computer from the CD, then selected "R", the recovery
console, typed in "bootcfg /repair". It shows the existing windows
installation, and after selecting it and entering the correct info when
requesting "enter load identifier" and "enter OS load option", I get the
note that it failed to repair (or something like that--don't remember the
exact wording.) I chose the /scan option, along with others that I don't
recall right now, and nothing appears to be amiss.

ANYWAY, with all that explanation, is there anything I can do so that the
repair option can be selected when I boot up with the new motherboard? Since
the existing installation is working OK, I have the freedom to get things
right BEFORE I proceed with the upgrade. I assume the boot.ini file would
need to be edited?

Thanks....Lee

Found the problem. Had an onboard RAID array (recognized as a SCSI device)
as the boot drive, along with a standard IDE drive. The IDE was recognized
as drive 0, the RAID array as drive 1. Fixing that in the boot.ini file
solved the problem.

Thanks to those who have replied!

Is this an OEM CD? Some of them do not support the repair facility (and
may also be customised to the present motherboard). With a Retail CD
you boot, enter to Setup Windows now, then after the license agreement
there should be options for New Install and Repair Insta;llation
