repair console

I get an error message on startup. Windows could not start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system ... then it promts to use the repair console to fix or replace the missing file. I am looking for some information on how to extract the file from the instal cd using the repair console. If anyone has any information i would be grateful.
