Repagination stuck while doing a table of contents

I am trying to generate a table of contents for about 9 files in Word 2002
using the RD function. However, when I try to run the table of contents,
the repagination gets "stuck" on one of my documents (it says "Word is
repaginating appendix.doc, page 29, and just stays that way for minutes).
Is there a way to deal with this issue?

Try saving the document as HTML, exiting Word and reloading the HTML
into Word and saving as a doc again.

Thanks for responding, but this did not work. I have tried this with both
HTML and RTF, and neither solution worked. What does seem to change the
result is deleting graphics from the file that keeps sticking, but this is
not an acceptable approach. And, it just makes the file stick on a
different page.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again!

You tried this for the RD'd files, or just the master? What sort of
shape are the RD'd documents in? Are they nicely styled up and the
outline levels are ok and so on?

Have you got a bookmark gone astray across headings?
