Reoccurring error message on bootup

On some boot-up's, (more frequently than not!)
My PC displays an error message box (which halts boot untill action is taken)

Heading "Windows-No Disc"
Message "There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive."
there are three buttons labelled "Cancel" "Try Again" "Continue"

Upon pressing "Continue" (sometimes up to 6 times) the computer continues to
boot as normal & runs fine.
Q. Is there a way of telling which drive is creating the error report? As
the message is none drive specific, how are you supposed to remedy the
problem?

My PC has a floppy, two hard drives, two DVD drives & a Media card reader, a
total of approx 11 drives (including partitions) all of which appear to work!

Any Ideas please.

It sounds like the boot order for the drives may be wrong. If any drive except the hard drive where XP is installed is set to boot first, you will see this message. You need to access the BIOS to check/change the boot order for the drives.

When the PC first starts, you should see a message similar to: "Setup press xx" where xx is a key on the keyboard. this key must be pressed immediately to enter the BIOS settings. Once in the BIOS, there will be options to change the boot order. If you cannot determine how to access the BIOS, see the following website for a list of the most common PC manufacturers BIOS access keys as well as some cautions on making changes to BIOS settings.

Hi Wesley, I do have an external USB HDD which is rarely used & only
connected when needed.........I shall perhaps have to boot up with it powered
up & connected to confirm if this is the problem.
However, If this was the problem should I receive the error message at EVERY
boot-up without it connected?

Hi Ronnie, the current boot order is HDD-0, CD-Rom, Floppy,
Boot up other device is enabled & bootup floppy seek disabled.
Hope this helps
Thanks.

Further on the subject of external drives, my USB HDD is not recognised from
boot if connected pre power up, but is seen if usb lead is hot plugged i.e
pulled out & re-inserted.

Hello Wesley, thanks for the suggestions, I have tried both the registry hack
& clearing the recent files list in QT & I am pleased to say the problem has
not occurred during my last three boot-up's. Thank you! I shall post again if
the problem returns.

I never would have guessed it might have been QuickTime when you first
posted until doing a little research.
