Renaming Outlook Folders OL 2002

I have much email that I track, and have many folders that I set up with
alpha-numeric folders for categorizing messages. Is there a way to rename
default folders so I can get contacts at top, folowed by the logical
progression of folders I want, and place the ones I seldom if ever use at
bottom of folder tree. I do the same with my windows folders, and the same
logic would be ideal in OL02 if I could rename these dang folders and have
them sort themselves by the folder name or alpha-num. This would be terrific.

No, you can use the Outlook Bar for this though.
Personally I wouldn't recommend creating folders in which I receive directly
under the root-folder but I would put these under the Inbox folder.

In your case upgrading to Outlook 2007 might be useful as it allows you to
create Favorite Folders, Search Folders and use the Shortcuts Navigation to
achieve what you want more easily than in Outlook 2002.

Roady - The OL Bar doesn't do what I want. Perhaps some additional detail
will help us both. At moment I have 9 numbered folders (examples, 1-Dads
Inbox, 2-Moms Inbox, 3-Family, etc) and these have sub-folders, all under the
OL Today (Personal Folders) plus the standard Inbox, Sent, etc. I have rules
that send email directly from the Inbox to inboxes for me and my wife. When
I save a message as a certain topic, I drag it to the folder I want. This is
very useful since I have lots of business folders in the stack.

I want to get the contacts at the top of the folder tree, because that is
the logiocal place for it to be. Then calendar, inboxes, my folders, sent,
deleted, yadda, yadda. I do not use tasks, journal, or notes. It seems to
me that somewhere inside the collective brain-trust at MS somone would have
considered that people are logical thinkers, and would align their desktops
in an orderly fashion to match how they work. I should tell you that I
learned long ago to organize everything in folder stacks, and I launch
everything from windows explorer. It is the only way to handle the vast
amount of docs and sometimes dozens of projects I am working on at the same
time.

If I cannot rename the standard folders, or hide them, I will just have to
live with it. I was hoping you could tell me of the magic bullet or cowboy
programmer who could do this. Thank you in advance. You guys are terrific.

The biggest mistake people make is trying to order their electronic files
(including email) using a filing cabinet filing system. It makes it much too
hard to find anything. Let the software do the work - sort the mail by mom,
dad, kids and business and use views, categories and other outlook features
to separate the mail. It's too easy to lose mail when you use a lot of
folders and subfolders.

You can not rename the default folders. If you don't want to see some
folders, use shortcuts on the outlook bar to arrange the ones you want to
see in the order you want them in... turn off the folder list completely and
make groups on the outlook bar for all of your myriad folders.
