Apparently, when Windows Xp was installed (on a new hard
drive), it named my HD E: instead of C:.

Is it a big deal to rename it C: without causing
problems? Or is there a configuration issue?

Hello
You can not change the drive letter of the system main drive.
You will have to do a complete install to change the drive letter if you
want to change it.
You must have did the install with a zip drive of some other internal or
external drive connected.
When doing an install it is best to disconnect everything other then Rom
drives, harddrives, monitor, keyboard & mouse.

Actually, it was a brand new Hard Drive & new Windows XP
Operating System on the clean disk.

But the principal is exactly the same. Keep an external (non optical) drive
connected during the installation and the drive letters will be incorrect.

.
just right click your mouse onto the drive you want to
rename and scroll down to rename and left click to open
