Renamed files immediately yanked out of view

When renaming a file in Windows Explorer, more often than not
as soon as the rename is complete (e.g., when Enter is pressed
after pressing F2 and editing the name), the file is promptly
whooshed down to the bottom of the window listing.

Why?? Quite often I need to *work* with the file just renamed.
Is there a way to stop the mysterious force that abducts it?

TIA

its just the way it works. if you press F5 after it will refresh and put it
in the order you have specified...

Argh. Care to guess at the rationale for it? It definitely
did not (does not, I tried it) work that way in Win98.

Hi Rob,

How I *wish* I could see a pattern. The closest I ever got
was noticing that it (the yanking-away) seemed more common
if the file listing was too large for the window, i.e., that
it might have been related to the presence of scrollbars.
Naturally that theory debunked itself shortly thereafter!
It doesn't seem related to whether one or both Explorer
panes are open, nor to the sort criterion used for the
listing, nor to the view type (Details vs. List). Pantpant.

It's a ridiculous behavior to begin with. The only thing
that would hint at this relocation is if we had (and needed)
a way of sorting files by recentness of renaming!

It's become such a pain that today, when I had to rename
a whole slew of files, I did it using VBA. Yup, the ole
sledgehammer-on-a-thumbtack approach. Hey, it worked.....
