File extention goes missing when renaming files..?

I've just installed SP2 and the only problem to arise is
when I want to rename a file, when you press F2 to rename
the file the whole file name is highlighted including the
file extention. I can rename the file but the file
extention goes missing and the file becomes unreadable
unless I add the file extention..?

Hope someone can help... Regards Lee.

use Directory Opus from http://www.gpsoft.com.au
Great File manager originally designed for Amiga OS and later on ported to
Windows

It's always been that way, in every version of Windows. The extension
is part of the file name, and the OS uses that part to determine which
application to start when you start that file. If you rename the file
and don't include the extension in the new name, the OS will have no
way to determine which application goes with the file. For better or
for worse, that's the way it is. There's no way around it.

Directory Opus steps ahead of this issue. When you want to rename file it
highlights only name and skips extension.

Nothing to do with SP2. Rename means rename. If you don't want to change
the .ext then don't. It's your mouse and keyboard :)
