Rename that url

If you're talking about a text newsgroup post, there is no way, that I know of, to provide a "nice" name for
URLs, only to shorten them as you have found.

However, if you're want to do that on a desktop shortcut or in an HTML formatted email, there are a number of
ways it can be done, but I have a feeling that's not what you're talking about.

In what context do you want to do this shortening, in e-mail, newsgroup

Hi there Danny. I want to use these in email & the web. As I said I can do
the shortening but it would be good just to have the word 'Click here' in
place of the full url. So that when you click on it you will be directed to
the web page/site.
Any ideas?

Kurt's suggestion was where I thought you wanted to go, using rich text or
HTML in email. The same techniques will work for web pages.

After you check out Kurt's link post back, to this thread, with more
questions.

Good luck.

Sorry about this but I thought I had it there. The Try here should have
redirected to Google. I've just realised that I'm posting to the newsgroups
in plain text. I sent it to myself and it worked 100%

Posting in HTML is not really considered good USENET netiquette by many,
so you do risk being flamed.

Yeah, but then you risk being flamed just by asking a question sometimes ;)
