rename domain and forest

it seems we may be chaging our trading name and we may be asked to change our
domain name

Windows 2000 native is the domain functional level and we also use exchange
2003.

Is there a way to rename the whole domain and all the computers that are
members? there is rendom and netdom in w2003, but not sure is can be used in
this instance. Also even is the renaming is possible will the exchange
organization continue to function?

you can only rename when FFL = W2K3 and meet all requirements. Read the
domain rename documentation for all information needed

Having done domain renames and migrations, I would recommend you migrate
with ADMT to a new domain, rather than renaming the old one. With the
migration path, you have a lot more room for flexibility, whereas, renaming
the domain makes changes to your live servers in production that can bring
the whole AD infrastructure down if anything goes wrong.

In any case, neither of these options are easy or quick. If I were in your
shoes, I would argue against the name change unless it is absolutely
critical to continued business operations. Working off the principle of "If
it aint broke, don't fix it".
