Removing XP

Someone loaded Windows XP Professional onto my grandson's
PC and we can't register it because we don't own it. He
doesn't know who loaded it and we don't have a disk.
We cannot figure out how to remove it. It won't boot up
because it is not activated. We can get into Safe Mode
with command prompt but can't format the drive because
it's locked by XP. We don't know how to get to DOS. We
have tried running fdisk but it tells us it's the wrong
DOS version. We have tried to load Windows 98 but it
won't allow an older version to be loaded.
How do I get XP off this PC?

Hi,
If you are ready to format the drive, then this might help you:

Hi,

He doesn't know who loaded it?

He needs to run fdisk from a Win98 boot floppy and delete the non-dos
partition. Then create a primary dos partition and set it as active. Reboot
to the floppy and format the primary dos partition. Then load CD drivers and
proceed with Win98 setup. This of course will cause the loss of all data on
the drive.

Boot with a DOS disk. Run FDISK. Delete the Non-DOS partitions. Create
a new primary partition. Then format the drive and install the OS of
choice.
