Removing Windows XP Professional

I bought my HP with Windows XP Home Edition. I'm trying
to reformat my slave drive, but instead put the
Professional edition on my C drive. How do I take it
off, without having to reformat the entire drive?

How do I then just install the Professional edition on
the slave drive?

Thanks

1. Try upgrading from XPH to XPP. Hence, you might get away without having
to format the drive. However, I do not see any point in installing XPPro on
the slave drive - a slave drive is a backup drive or an extension of the
master drive. Since you claim that your slave HDD is also your C: (system)
drive, there might be something uncommon about your HP, or you might have
misunderstood what a slave drive is.

2. If you want to use XPPro as your main OS, install it on the master drive.
If you look in your BIOS, you will see the Boot Device Order; XPP must be
installed on one of those devices - mainly, on the master HDD. Of course,
you might use some boot manager to switch devices after post.

If you want to keep XPH, just switch the driver rank (change HDD pins to
make the slave into master), or even use two masters if you have the
hardaware.

Greetings --

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to
format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path
or technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
