Right click Internet Explorer on your desktop and choose
Properties. Under the General Tab, hit the "Clear History"
button.

How do I remove visited web sites from the address bar?>
choose 'TOOLS' from the toolbar
click "INTERNET OPTIONS" from the drop-down menu
click on the "CLEAR HISTORY" radio button.
This will clear out all sites you've visited from the
address bar.
While you're at it, you should click "DELETE COOKIES"
and "DELETE FILES (choose the DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT
option) radio buttons.
I do this every day for my work machine and at least twice
a week on my home machine.

This technique will keep out your senile computer-illiterate grandmother,
but it won't prevent anybody that knows anything about Windows from knowing
where you've been and what you've been doing.
As far as work goes, it doesn't matter if you "erase" your history everytime
you close your browser, everything is recorded -- either on the computer
and/or on the server.
Not trying to make you paranoid, just making you aware of the realities.
The "clear history" recommendations may not work for what you're trting to
do. If they don't, try this: Right-click on taskbar, click Properties,
then Advanced tab, then click Clear button.
