Hi,

I downloaded a file from the internet and i checked it for Virii , None was
found. I opened it up and installed it and then AVG opens a box and says "
VIRUS FOUND: Dropper.Bridge.A " . I have disabled System Restore and run AVG
but it refuses to remove it from the System Restore.

Can anyone explain what i have done wrong. Thanks.

You must turn system restore off to purge the files. System
restore files are protected and can't be cleaned.

Turn system restore off, do a virus scan and then you can
turn system restore back on. You can purge all but the last
restore point by using disk clean-up/more and if you have
rebooted with a clean system you'll have a new clean restore
point without the virus.

AVG is a big pile of steaming poo when it comes to removing virus' from a
machine so i found out to my cost. It decided to remove (quarentine) any any
programs that had the Pinfi virus thus causing my PC not to boot. I managed
to boot into safe mode and do a restore, after i'd bought Norton Antivirus

You've done nothing wrong except use a word that doesn't exist; "virii"
is not a word ;)

If you turned off system restore then there is no restore point to
delete anything from.

Start up in Safe Mode and then scan again.

Reboot after you disable system restore, it _should_ remove the past
restore points.

The virus has got into a System restore point before AVG got at it and
removed it from the main system. It can do not harm unless you restore
to that point. So wait for a new one to be made (or make one for
yourself), then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
and in the More Options click the button at the bottom to delete all but
that most recent point - the one the virus is in will go, taking the
virus with it
