Removing programs

I have installed different programs and then later uninstalled them. I have
cleared the folder they were in but somehow I feel that there are still
traces of all of these different programs left, bits and pieces. Is there a
fairly cheap or free software that will scan your computer and find all
these trace of programs that have been uninstalled and remove all the left
behind things they may leave? I hope you can understand what I am trying to
say.

You can never remove all trace of anything that you
happen to download unless you get rid of your hard
drive ... just do a search on your computer for whatever
programs or files that you might think is still
around ... >>> start buttom >>> search buttom >>> make
sure it looks under My computer and then just delete what
it finds , then go to your delete bin and remove it from
there

There are uninstallers that keep track of all modifications in registry,
..dll's etc. Get one - might be some free on the web - install and then
uninstall programs that you want to clean.
Download from MS site "Windows Installer Clean Up" and see if you can clean
more with that.
Use a few registry cleaners - plenty of them on the web - to clean the
registry.
There are other ways to 'manually' search for files and folders (ex.
modified on the date of installation, *.log), or use "Arrange files by
date/type"combinations to see, for ex. what dll's are registered at 'weird'
dates, registry search for the program name or executable or software
producer name.
